The question occurred to me today as I was working from home and DM'ing a colleague via Twitter. My first thought was to SMS him on my phone, or send him an email...but a Twitter DM was just faster (props to Tweetdeck). I have to believe someone has already asked this question, but I wasn't sure what the answer was. So after some thought, I asked my friends on Twitter. It's fair to say the consensus was that they're similar, but not the same:

One aspect of a city's economic development strategy is local employment. In particular, companies must be able to grow their employee base as business success necessitates.

Intrinsically we all understand the value a community can bring to its members. Can certain types of communities also bring value to the greater region in which they reside?

The door64 community has a degree of value to its members. However, while growing this community, I came to realize the substantial benefits to our city and state from an economic perspective. Economic development is often concerned with employment, local retention, and entrepreneurial growth. The door64 community happens to address all three:

Imagine you're buying a new car.

For the sake of argument, let's be simplistic: You arrive at the dealership, and look at a few models. Once you settle on the one you like, you buy it, and drive off the lot. All the features (power windows, brakes, radio, etc.) work as expected, and you're happy.
